Inside Waistband Holsters: General Information
All of our IWB holsters are constructed of
only the finest leathers available. We use premium domestic bullhide, which
is slightly stiffer than cowhide. All of our bullhide is gum-finished, which
gives a smoother interior to the holster, eliminating the need for lining
leathers, as well as compressing the leather, making the overall product
thinner, but with the same strength as a thicker leather holster.
Our IWB
holsters all feature a reinforced mouth, utilizing space age ABS plastic inserts between the
layers of leather to keep the holster open for smooth re-holstering. The ABS
will not deform, permanently bend, or rust, which are always possibilities
with steel inserts.
All belt straps
connect with one way snaps, eliminating the possibility of their coming open
during use. The caps to the snaps are black, a small point that exemplifies
the thought and care we put into our designs and execution. Even though we
have to purchase these caps separately from the remainder of the snap
assembly, we do so because there is a slightly lesser chance of someone
noticing the black caps and drawing attention to the handgun.
All attachment clips
used are "talon" style, with a very aggressive hook on the inside of the
clip that will prevent it from coming detached from the belt, no matter how
vigorous the drawing motion.
The default construction of our IWB holsters is with the
smooth side of the leather out. Many other makers use a cheaper grade of suede leather for
the holster pouch, stating that this is needed to keep the holster from shifting while it
is worn. Instead, we use two belt straps to prevent movement, and a slightly heavier (and
more expensive) grade of leather for the pouch. This allows us to hand mold the holster
for the specific gun it is designed to carry, and makes the hand-rubbed wax finish we
apply for moisture resistance possible. Anyone that has worn a suede IWB holster for one
day during hot, humid weather can tell you that suede will act like a sponge for
perspiration under these conditions. This is not comfortable, nor is it good for the
finish of your handgun.
Summer Heat
 SUMMER HEAT IWB
Seen above, the Summer Heat IWB holster is
our original IWB offering. Based on the Bruce Nelson Summer Special design, this holster
incorporates all of the features and refinements detailed above, making it a
professional's choice for concealed carry.
This style of IWB
holster rides the handgun a little higher than other styles, which makes it
ideal for longer handguns, such as 5" 1911's, full size USP's, XD Tactical
models, etc. The higher ride prevents the barrel from digging into the hip
bone or coccyx area of the body. It also prevents this style of IWB from being
suitable for any handguns with slide/barrel lengths of less than 4 inches, as
the weapon will be top heavy and tend to want to over balance on the belt.
The Undercover/Covert Carry IWB's offer a deeper ride in the pants that is
ideal for shorter auto-pistols and revolvers.

Undercover/Covert Carry
  
These unique styles of IWB holsters conceal the weapon without a jacket, even when the
shirt is tucked in! This is accomplished by means of a support piece
mounted to the base of the holster. The top of the support has the talon clip on it. The
entire assembly is placed in the pants, with the shirt tucked in between the holster pouch
and support piece. In this manner, the only visible portion of the holster is the
clip. With the great number of electronic devices that are belt mounted,
cell phones, pagers, PDA's, the clip goes virtually unnoticed. Pictured
above with a Kimber Ultra Carry, and below with a H&K P-7, the UnderCover/Covert
Carry IWB can conceal a wide variety of
handguns. Like all our IWB designs,
it features ABS re-inforced mouth and premium domestic bullhide construction.
Angle on this holster is between FBI and Neutral in order to allow it to be
worn either front of the hip (appendix carry) or just behind the hip. The UnderCover,
in black or mahogany brown, is $79.95 + S&H. The Covert Carry IWB is
available in natural tan leather only for $69.95.
(Please note: The Undercover is no
longer available with the formed belt loop. Our experience in recent years has
shown us that the Talon clip is a better, more versatile and secure option for
this style holster.)
